TAI CHI CHUAN VIDEOS

Tai Chi Chuan – Sequence #1 – Warm-up (~20 min)

This gentle introductory sequence establishes the basic physical and cognitive environment for Tai Chi practice. The emphasis is on postural alignment, weight shifting, balance control, mental focus, strength, flexibility and relaxation. Since the sequence is foundational, it should be repeated regularly

Tai Chi Chuan – Sequence #2 – Basic Stepping (~12 min)

Stepping patterns are a natural extension of the weight shifting exercises that we developed in sequence #1. The combination of sequences #1 and #2 establishes a foundation of stability, balance, and movement control which helps us to maintain functional balance control in our daily lives and on which we can build our tai chi chuan practice.

Tai Chi Chuan – Three Circles (~8 min)

This video introduces three fundamental circles or rotations that give rise to many of the common tai chi chuan movements. Becoming comfortable with these basics will improve the ability to learn new movements. The Eight treasures sequence which follows builds on the fundamentals established in this video by expanding their application.

Tai Chi Chuan – Eight Treasures – Introduction (~22 min)

This introduction to the “Eight Treasures” helps to establish the essential integration between lower and upper body movement that defines and is a constant in tai chi practice. There are many variations on the “Eight Treasures” but most versions tend to group around a set of core patterns. The core patterns are really nothing new. They are drawn from strands of movement that comprise the natural actions and attendant forces that comprise normal every-day movement. The strands are then expanded and linked to form longer and more complex patterns. In the process of exploring, try to discover the connections between the movements and every day life.
